Flickland — Ttang-ttameokgi (땅따먹기), the Korean Land-Grab Folk Game

Ttang-ttameokgi ("land-grab") is a traditional Korean folk game children once played in the dirt of yards and alleys — from the same era as the childhood games made famous by Squid Game, such as Red Light Green Light (무궁화꽃이 피었습니다), marbles (구슬치기), and ddakji. It was never shown in the series, but it was another favorite of the same generation. Flickland is a free online version you can play right in your browser — no install, no account.

How to play

  1. Place the stone. When your turn starts, click your land border to place the go-stone.
  2. Flick up to three times. Pull the stone back opposite to where you want it to go, then release. Leave your land and come back — everything inside your trail becomes yours. You fail if you cross your own path, pierce through your own land, or touch an opponent's land.
  3. Use the one-span (한뼘) rule. Once per turn, raise a one-span ruler from a land border and rotate it; the area sealed off by the ruler, your land and the map edge becomes yours.
  4. Win. Be the first to capture enough of the field — 50% in a 2-player game, 40% in a 3-player game.

Battle smart bots 1v1 or 1v2, play hot-seat (pass-and-play) with 2–3 people, or connect online peer-to-peer with a friend. Choose your map shape (square, circle, pentagon, hexagon, or random), ground texture, and game mode — Normal, Time Attack, Item, Target (gwanyeokjeon), Flag Capture, or Stronghold — then flick away.

Privacy Policy

Data on your device. Flickland stores only your game settings (sound, map, difficulty, etc.) and your last replay in your browser’s localStorage — this never leaves your device. We have no login and collect no names, emails, or personal profiles.

Online play. The optional online match is peer-to-peer: your moves and the nickname you choose are sent directly to the other player, not stored on our servers. To set up the connection we use third-party signaling and STUN/TURN relay services (e.g. PeerJS, Google STUN, Metered TURN), which process technical connection data such as IP addresses and a short room code; when a direct link can’t be made, game data may be relayed through a TURN server. We do not record or retain match contents.

Advertising & cookies. Flickland may display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized ads at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. Where required (e.g. the EEA, UK), a consent prompt is shown before personalized ads are served.

Analytics. We use Google Tag Manager to load measurement tags (such as Google Analytics), which may set cookies and collect aggregate usage data (pages viewed, device/browser type, approximate region) to help us improve the game. We do not use it to identify you personally. The full policy — terms and children’s privacy included — is available in-game via the “Privacy” link, or by emailing us.
